That Is Really... Something Else


"Mom? did you see what I made?"

"That's great, babe. I like... your use of color."

"It's black."

"I see that."

"Do you know what it is?"

"A Star Wars thing?"

"No."

"A bowl with a spoon sticking out of it?"

"No."

"A wig-on-a-stick?"

"Mom! It's an umbrella!"

"And it's a lovely one, buddy."

    I saw that right away, too, but it may have also had to do with the fact that I've needed to use an umbrella for the past week!

    But "a Star Wars thing" was a wonderful educated first guess.

    I recognized it immediately as an umbrella too, but I'm chalking that up to the fact that I don't live in the world of Bob, where many of the inhabitants are Star Wars things and wigs on sticks.

    I saw the umbrella right away too and I thought "I wish I could draw an umbrella the way Bob does." So good.

    To me, it looks like a very special umbrella: you open it, and it rains only inside the umbrella. Because it contains its own storm cloud, you see?
