How's Teddy?

He's been licking his paws and panting for seemingly no reason for the past few months. The veterinarian suspected separation anxiety. The timing matched up and we realized that Teddy is mourning Daisy. The vet recommended a special collar that releases a type of pheromone that helps to calm the anxiety. He's been wearing it for a week now. It's helping. He's a sensitive little soul, that Teddy. How's he doing? He's doing just fine.

  1. Oh, what a sweet soul he is. Your photos of him always tug at my heart.

Please give him a hug for me.

  2. Goldie never got over my dad's death. I mean, she was generally fine after a few weeks, but she still looked for him every single day. They are amazingly faithful to their pack.

  3. I read somewhere on the Internet (!) that dogs need closure over the deaths of their humans. They need to "know" the person is dead and not coming back and then they can move on. As long as they don't know, they will continue to look for them. I wonder if the same applies to getting over the deaths of their pet friends. I'm guessing yes.

I'd also hazard a guess that because Teddy has had many homes, he might worry that he will be taken away next.

    1. I'm hoping, over time, he'll get that he's not going anywhere.

  5. Teddy is so luck that you are his people.

When our sweet Beau died, his buddy Joey was inconsolable. Our vet recommended something called a Thundershirt. It helped a lot (so much that I wish they made them for people!).

    Hugs to all of you.

  7. Poor guy! Glad he seems to be feeling better with collar, but, as with we human types, it'll probably take time. After he gets the Lefflerhug, give him one for me too? Also, ask him if he thinks we should try out some of those collars, since we're missing our departed Max pretty fiercely.

  8. Oh, I want to hug him so much. I'm so glad you take such good care of him.

We always thought that my dog was immortal (or at least until 17 or so), but when her best friend since puppyhood and often live-in-sister died at 14, my dog followed weeks later. Neither me nor sister dog's mom have come anywhere near recovery of this double-blow after five years.

Dogs can love so very deeply.
