Yesterday they played the "I Have a Dream" speech during church and this line flew out and hit me in the face: "Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred." How incredibly hard it must have been to stand by that principle when so much hatred was being thrown at him. Geez.
Also: it was students from my kid's high school, Oakland Technical High School, that rallied around the idea of a MLK day and got the Cali state legislature to endorse it, which started the national movement. So I feel sort of braggy about that.
What a joyous picture. What a remarkable statement.
