Smacksy Saturday Photo: LEGO Returns

About a year and a half ago, Bob declared that he just wasn't into LEGO anymore. Considering over the years I had stepped on a crippling number of LEGO pieces in bare feet, I was surprised at how disappointed I was to hear that he had decided he was done.

Then, two days ago, a miraculous thing happened. LEGO is back. Bob pulled a couple of unopened sets out of his closet and the kitchen table-as-building-station has returned. I am delighted. And I am wearing hard-soled slippers.

Best

This may be my favorite Lego minifigure, yet. (Everyone has one, right?) This is a native American woman with a tiny papoose on her back.

Well, of Course

"Mom? I want to use the money I saved to get some more Lego guys to complete my army. Can we go to the Lego store to get them instead of the internet? The Lego store is more legit."

Their Guys

"Here, Bob. Here's the Lego guy I made of you."

"Thanks, Lucas!"

"And here Sebby, here's the Lego guy I made of you."

"Thanks, Lucas.... Hey Bob, did you notice my guy is wearing a captain's hat but I'm not really a captain?"

"Sure you are, Sebby - Captain Awesome!"

Don't Give Up The Ship

"Okay, Bob. Let's get going with this. This is a huge set. It's going to take awhile."

"But Dad, I looked for that one piece we need to keep going but I can't find it anywhere."

"All right. I'll help you look."

"That's okay. You don't need to. I'm pretty sure I don't even like Legos anymore."

Target Practice

"So, Mom. You know how when I was really young, like five,  I used to make my Lego sets and then break them  all up and apart? Now when I get sets, I'm just going to build them and put them on my shelf. I made it a display case. Maybe I'll shoot one of these lasers sometimes. Like this one. Like that. Oh. Are you okay, Mom? I wasn't really aiming at you. Are you sure? Do you need a Bandaid or something? I can kiss it for you."

Tiny Java

"Mom? Look there's a coffee maker as part of my police station set."

"They say police officers drink a lot of coffee."

"Yeah but Mom, you drink a lot of coffee."

"That's true. And I do love that little coffee maker."

"I knew you would. It's like Me = Lego plus You = coffee. You should post a picture of it on your blog, Mom."

Change of Plans

"Bob, I'm looking online about our trip to LegoLand. I know you were hoping to stay at LegoLand Hotel but it's almost $700 a night."

"Hello, somewhere cheaper!"

Lego Logic

"We're on number three, Felix"

"No, we're on four."

"Three."

"Four. This is the fourth bag, Bob."

"Oh, I thought we were talking about instruction manuals."

"We're talking about bags and we're on the fourth one."

"Okay but we're on the third manual. Where's the bag?"

"Where's the manual?"

"This is the coolest set ever."

"I know."

Um...

"Dad, I'm pretty sure we can get these all put back together."

Necessities

"Before we go to the park we need to swing by the store. We're out of coffee."

"You don't need coffee to live, Mom."

"No, I don't but I prefer to live with it."

"I know. I feel that way about Lego Lord of the Rings."

Battlefield

"Mom! Check out this cool Star Wars base I made. See all the Storm Trooper guys?"

"That's very cool, Babe."

"Fire at will! Fire at will! Fire at will... Mom who's Will?"

The List

"Mom? Can we go to the store? I want to pick up some things."

"What things?"

"Lego Ninjago Destiny's Bounty set, Fangpyre Truck Ambush, Wrecking Ball, Jay's Storm Fighter, Rattlecopter, Cole's Tread Assault, Forest Police Station and the Police Dog Van, Dirt Bike Trans--"

"Bob? I need to interrupt you. That's quite a dream-list but I think we're only going to the supermarket today."

"Oh... Then can we get strawberries?"

Named

"Mom? I have a new middle name I made up for myself."

"What's that?"

"Jay, Master of Lightning."

"Like in your Ninjago Legos?"

"Yeah. My full name is Robert Edward Jay Master of Lightning Lego Zone Rosenberg."

"I like it."

Today Bob built a Lego version of our home away from home: Trader Joe's.
You heard me.

The Career

"Mom? I'm going to need a new Lego set."

"I don't think so. You need to play with all of those Legos you have already."

"I do need more. Let's face it, Mom. Legos is my job. I gotta do my job."

Lego Camp: Day 4

photo from here

"Today we talked about weight loads on catapults and how you could build the pyramids in Egypt with catapults as long as you had the right weight loads and then we made these towers that were super tall and made these motorized things that could rescue the guy on top of the tower and we did a battery operated helicopter and robots that walked and I also made a Lego guy that looked like me."

"That's amazing. Take a deep breath, Bob."

"And those little round things on the Lego bricks are called knobs."

"You having fun?"

"Yeah."
