Right Here

It is a boy's place. It looks like a map of the whole world and the Star Wars Galaxy, photos of the Space Shuttle and a needlepoint picture of Mighty Mouse. Glow-in-the-dark planets hang from the ceiling and a drum set sits on the floor. It sounds like Party Rock and Thriller and the cricket who is living somewhere in the closet. A basket of cars, a basket of dinosaurs, and a replica of the Batcave sit under the window.  There are seven very well-loved stuffed animals, thousands of Legos, and one pirate ship.  It smells like the damp dog asleep on the bed. It is my favorite room in the house.

  1. I love boy spaces. But why can't they smell like girl spaces?

  2. I have a 13 year old boy. A word of warning: Cherish that damp dog smell.

  3. It looks...clean. Where are the tiny Polly Pocket shoes and the half-assembled dollhouses and messy piles of American Girl craft books?

Oh that's right. I have girls. Who wish their dog was allowed to sleep on their beds.

    1. We have crickets hiding all over the house. They especially love the bathtub.

  7. Such a perfect boy space. And the dog completes it.

  8. My boys have glow in the dark planets hanging from their ceiling as well. Absolutely, best room.

  9. Your recent posts have reminded me that it is OK to have clutter on top of the fridge once in awhile. Worth it for the two girls who giggle and dance nonstop after dinner. And yes, it is normal to line things up in rows.

Thanks for the posts from the heart. Your writing is beautiful.
