Soy Americano

"Mom, today in school we learned the José song."

"Wow. Tell me you don't mean the Star Spangled Banner."

"No, not that. It's like this, 'José can you see...'"

"That's the Star Spangled Banner and it's not 'José can you see,' it's 'Oh, say can you see,' and I'm pretty sure that thinking that they're saying 'José' is a classic milestone worthy of the baby book."

"I'm not sure what that means... but who's José?"

  1. I'm very impressed that you knew that he was referring to the Star Spangled Banner. And for all we know, Francis Scott Key was really sitting on a bluff next to his homeboy Jose when all of the rockets and bombs were bursting in the air. I'm just saying.

  3. Oh, this is fantastic. I will never think of our national anthem the same way again.

Also, I think Jose is the brother to the huskier "Round John Virgin" of Christmas carol fame.

    XOXO

    2. When I was a child, I always thought that "'Round Yon Virgin" meant that she had to have a halo. I'd seen lots of pics of Renaissance and Middle Ages art; I knew about halos -- and they were round. It made sense to me.

  4. I am laughing loudly right now, about the post and the comments. Definitely baby book worthy.

  5. As a Latina? I know for a fact that it is "Jose can you see..", sorry. Dont remember how to do the accent mark on the laptop. Probably lose puerto rican points there. Oh well. Over it. But it is about Jose, Bob is awesomely smart.

  8. In Canada, "Gloria stands free..." as opposed to "glorious and free." I just finished retraining my 5th graders on how to properly sing the national anthem! Love it!

  11. And obviously, José was the guy stuck next to Francis Scott Key in Ft. McHenry, and Key was just pointing out the view to him. ;)
