Empty Lap

As I've been sitting down this week to write for my NaNoWriMo project, I keep thinking how much Vi would have loved it. She was a lap sitter. Me, sitting at the computer for hours would have been very all right with her. And her co-piloting my writing would have made me happy. I miss Violet, you guys.

Farewell, Sweet Violet

I will always remember Violet like she is in this photo: Sitting on something soft, enjoying pets from the people who love her. We said goodbye to her this morning. She was very weak, her breathing was labored, the light was gone from he eyes. It was her time.

Bob was with me this morning at the vet. As we left, I was crying.

"Mom, I'm sad too. I have an idea. I will save up my allowance and buy a new cat and you can name her Violet."

And then I cried more, this time from the sweetness.

Peaceful travels, Violet June Rosenberg.

About Violet

She hasn’t eaten in a couple of days and her nose is a little stuffy and maybe that’s why she’s not hungry. She still looks for laps to sit on. She walks a crazy zig-zag walk the vet says is due to some type of neurological “event.” She purrs. There is a lump in her abdomen that shows up on the x-ray and whatever that lump is, isn’t good news. She still hangs out in the shower with Mr. Rosenberg in the morning. She has chronic renal failure. She sits in the sink and drinks from the dripping faucet. The dogs sit next to her and lick her face.

We’ll be back at the vet today. Vi seems to be wrapping things up, in her own time. I hope she just has a cold but I’m afraid it might be her long walk home. I’m keeping a candle lit in my heart for a little more time with Violet.

Her

"Bob, we need to stop at Von's and get some cat litter for Pearl."

"Don't you mean Vi, Mom? Pearl already died before."

"Right. I must be tired."

"And you must miss Pearl."

What's New With Vi?

Guys? Today our cat Violet climbed into the tub and took a shower with Jeff. This kind of weirdo behavior is exactly why she belongs in Casa Rosenbeg.

Sweet Violet

"Mom, I'm tired of going to the vet. When is Violet going to get better?"

"She's not going to get better, Honey."

"Why not?"

"She has a thing called chronic renal failure and it's not going to go away. We just have to keep bringing her in twice a week to get fluids to make her feel more comfortable."

"Forever?"

"I hope we get to keep taking her for a long time."

"Me too... Can I carry her?"

"Yep."

Fiesta de Los Gatos

"Dad? How is Violet supposed to celebrate a cat birthday with only humans?"

"You think she should have a cat party?"

"Yeah. Maybe Miss Belva could bring Cindy from next door and Mee Mee could bring Marty over."

"That would be pretty crazy. Would they have cat birthday cake?"

"Cat cake is made out of turkey. We can make it. It's what Vi's wants."

Decorating

"Violet, you are my kitten sister and I love that you like to sit in my bed and do purring. I know you like my fish mobile up there on the ceiling. I can get you your own mobile or something. Wait. I know just what you should have. Hey Mom? Mom? Can I get a poster of turkey lunch meat? You will love that, Vi. You very will."
