Well, Then

"Dad? Where do I put the pod?"

"What pod?"

"From inside this cherry."

"The pit?"

"If that's what you want to call it."

Scaries

"That was so silly, Mom. Those guys on TV were actually afraid of a monster."

"But aren't you afraid of that Kool Aid guy?"

"Yeah but he's not a monster, he's a giant and dangerous Kool Aid pitcher that might live in my closet. It's totally different, Mom."

Gramps, Get Your Yiddish Together

"Bob, will you please grab your swimsuit out of the dryer?"

"That doesn't sound ko-cher."

"What?"

"Ko-cher."

"You mean kosher?"

"Yeah. What does that mean, exactly?"

"To say something doesn't sound kosher means it sounds suspicious."

"Oh... never mind."

Memorial Day

My Grandfather, Robert Lee Zimmerman, Germany 1944

Today I hope we'll all pause what we're doing and join together in the National Moment of Remembrance (3:00pm local time) to honor those who died in service to our country.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Smacksy Sunday Links

These are good things to keep in mind.

This is super cool.

This movie is beautiful and heartbreaking and haunting. I know it will stay with me for a long time.

Happy Sunday.

Critic

"Mom, is this rock and roll we're listening to?"

"Yep."

"It doesn't sound like rock and roll."

"Technically it's probably considered 'adult contemporary.'"

"Real rock and roll is a lot more better."

Miraculous

"Dad, a miracle happened today at school."

"A miracle?"

"Yeah, a real one. I made actual friends with Kellie."

"Whoa."

"I know."

Tiny Grampa at the Doctor

"So, Bob? Tell the doctor what's been going on."

"I've been having tummy aches all the time..."

"After checking you out and talking to you some more, I think you need to be eating more fruits and vegetables and getting more roughage."

"See Mom? I told you it wasn't the dairy, it's the fiber."

The Nerve

"Mom, I don't want this."

"You need to eat at least one bite of that squash, please."

"I'm so super awesome and this is how I'm treated?"

Center of the Earth

"Mom, what's in the center of the earth?"

"At the earth's core?"

"Yeah. What's it made out of?"

"I think it's really hot there like the lava that comes out of a volcano."

"I'm pretty sure it's made of lucky pennies."

Open House Night

"Dad, for Open House at school the teachers are decorating the whole classroom with our good art and then we get to go to school at night and see our friends when it's almost dark out and you guys can see the alphabet art book I did and the really good story book I wrote and my seeds. The seeds I planted are growing super fast, actually and you can see them. I will show them to you."

Preferred

"Hey, Little Critter."

"Mom, please don't call me that. Just call me Bob... or Poochman... or Smoochman."

"What about Mr. Rosenbaby?"

"Of course, you can call me that too."

Smacksy is Three

You Guys? Three years ago today, I staked my claim in this little corner of the internet. Smacksy is three-years-old and apparently, a Taurus. I'm not sure what this all means except that I am so very grateful for all of you that stop by here.

Sharing my stories and my family with you every day is a great pleasure.
Thank you for hanging out here. You rule.

Nature

"Mom, this granola bar has 'nature' in its name?"

"Yep, it does."

"What part of nature is chocolate?"

"The good part."

London Time

"Mom, what time is it in England right now?"

"One in the morning."

"That means in the middle of the night?"

"Yep."

***

"Mom, what time is it in England now?

"It's four-o'clock in the afternoon."

***

"Mom, what time is it in England right now?"

"It's ten-o'clock at night. It's always about eight hours later there than it is here. Why do you keep asking, Bud?"

"For when Dad's in England next month, I'm trying to figure out how he's going to get to bed on time."

Says Who?

 "Mom? What's disco?"

"It's a kind of music and dancing that was really popular about thirty years ago."

"I heard it died. Is it dead?"

"Some people think so."

"What does the dance look like?"

"Kind of like this - watch."

"Mom? Are you okay? You can stop now... Mom?'

Lucky Ladies

"Mom, we need to leave t-ball practice as soon as it's over."

"We will. We don't want to be late to Sabine's for pizza."

"It's more than pizza, Mom. It's dinner with my girls."

My Heart

"Mom, I'm sorry you're not feeling good."

"Thanks, Sweetheart. It's just a cold. I'll feel better soon. I love you."

"I love you more like more plus four-hundred-fifty."

"That's a lot, but I don't know if you can say you love me more than I love you."

"But, Mom I loved you before you even knew I was going to be here."

"I believe you."

The smallest one was Madeline...

"Boys and girls, today Bob's mom has come to school this morning to read a book to the class. Let's say good morning to Bob's mom."

"Hi, Bob's mom."

"Good Morning everyone. Today I'm going to read one of Bob's favorite books, "Madeline." Madeline is a little girl who lives in a city called Paris in a country called France. Has anyone here been to France? And Bob's raising his hand, yes Bob?"

"You guys I've been to France but I was a tiny baby and it was a really long airplane trip and I was awake the entire time, like twelve hours. Right, Mom?"

"Very, very right, Bob."

Smacksy Saturday Photo: Retro Bob

Guys? I know I've posted this photo before but it's Bob's sixth birthday today. This year, for some reason, I'm feeling especially sentimental about the whole situation. We met Bob Rosenberg on May 5, 2006. Six years later, I still have that look on my face most of the time, only now it's without the painkillers. I'm a lucky gal. Happy Birthday, Bob.

"I do."

"Cake!"

Almost

"Hey, Mom!"

"Yeah?"

"Chicken butt!"

"I think you meant, 'Guess what? Chicken butt' But we don't say 'butt' at our house."

"Okay. Guess what?"

"What?"

"Chicken bottom!"

"Nice."

Good Talk

"Mom? Your eyes look small."

"I just woke up."

"Your voice sounds funny."

"That's because I have a cold, Bob."

"You're nose is running and your tummy looks puffy."

"Cool. Anything else?"

"Yeah... I tooted."

Pardon Me

Tonight, I walked into the bedroom to find a sweet scene: Jeff and Bob in mid-conversation after reading bedtime stories. They looked up and smiled at me and then my boy leaned over to his father and whispered, "Dad you really need to watch your language."
