Fall Asleep

I'm taking an online writing class this summer with teachers Robin Rice and Emily McDowell at https://www.bewhoyouare.com/ The writing prompts are pictures and we are free to write whatever we'd like to as inspired by the photo. Over the next few weeks, I'll post some of my homework.

Here's what I wrote to go with the photo above:

Everyone who knows her has always laughed at her ability to fall asleep anywhere. She pushed back at the suggestion that she suffered from narcolepsy. Sometimes she was just tired, just done. There was that time in the South West boarding line at the airport in Dallas. (Boarding Group C - the loser boarding group.) And that time at the farmer's market waiting to pay for rainbow chard. (She knew it was good for her but who likes chard really? If you say you do, she'll accuse you of lying.) She'd fallen asleep more than once in a long business meeting when Gary was sharing one of his Power Points. (Can you blame her?)

But now here she was, standing on a ledge trying to coax the cat in from his favorite spot on the roof, something she'd done a million times. She felt herself slipping into unconsciousness, pressed up against the rough wall of her apartment building. "What terrible timing for a nap," she whispered.
