Unwrap Your Day

I saw a commercial today for a cancer medication. The actress plying the cancer survivor in the commercial ends the spot with the words, "Now, everyday is a gift." Now. Not before, but now that she had to contemplate her own eminent death, now everyday is a gift. This is an old theme we've all heard before: Once you have looked death in the face, only then do you really appreciate the days you have left. I get it, but let's not do it that way.

Please don't wait. Open the gift. Open it now.
