Vintage Typo
You guys? I love vintage linens. I bought these hand-embroidered pillowcases on eBay without looking at the photos too closely. I'm no grammar expert, but that crazy misplaced apostrophe makes my OCD all itchy. I am proud to say that I'm letting it go and not pulling those little apostrophe threads out. Letting it go. Everyday. This is me letting it go.

nooooo!! you MUST pull them out!
ReplyDeletePull the threads!
ReplyDeleteI would so pull the threads...
ReplyDeleteI'd be pulling out the threads.....
ReplyDeleteAre you up yet? Because I really want to drive over there and pull those incorrect threads out.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this "letting go" you speak of?
A.
Your a bigger woman then I.
ReplyDelete(Is your other eye twitching now?)
Seventy years ago, some young wife embroidered those. Her loving husband and she slept on them every night. Then one day, one of their children noticed the error. The woman was red-faced and wanted to remove the offending threads. The man kissed her cheek and said "All these years, we've slept next to each other on your beautiful handiwork. I love every stitch, no matter what people say is right or wrong. Leave them."
ReplyDeleteIf it didn't happen that way, it could have.
Mistakes make us human. Living with them requires humility and love.
[Just my opinion.]
My mom would totally pull out the apostrophe! But me? I think that makes it more interesting!
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted as to what happens!!
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely take my seam ripper to that ugly little apostrophe..haha.
ReplyDeleteI will mail you a seam ripper.
ReplyDeleteNo...that's fine...looks nice...
ReplyDelete(twitch twitch)
ReplyDeleteThose who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it. Pull the threads.
ReplyDeleteDo you need to borrow my seam ripper?
ReplyDeleteYou are stronger than I.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, when and if I make it out there, I might be tempted to come over and pull out the apostrophe.
What Steve said!
ReplyDeleteAlso? I am from the sticks and am a proper hillbilly. I would like to note that this is actually just hillbilly speak. Her's= "Her is gonna need this here pillowcase." Look, you're multicultural now!
"Letting go" is great, but (there's always a big but) that errant apostrophe - ARRGH! Let 'er rip!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Steve! DON'T PULL THEM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. I think you should start a collection of mistakes you find on other things. I'll bet thousands of people would send in their own.
ReplyDeleteWas there a set of towels that says "Mine" and "You're's"?
ReplyDeleteI once made my mom a sampler that was supposed to say Home Sweet Home but I stitched Home Sweat Home. She may have pulled a few muscles laughing, but she still has it and thinks it is very appropriate.
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I'd be OK with it but ONLY IF I announced it to everyone who entered: "not done by me or anyone on my family tree."
ReplyDeleteAfter that announcement, I could let it go.
xo
I find the error charming. Somehow it feels more human. Proof that a real person created it.
ReplyDeleteThey're probably worth thousands of dollars...CALL THE ANTIQUE ROAD SHOW!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm probably going to have things thrown at me, but this makes me wonder why the apostrophe is wrong. "Her" is technically a noun and to show possession one would put the apostrophe, surely?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Bill Bryson could give us the history of hers.
ReplyDeleteMy OCD is itchy just looking at the picture. But they are beautiful pillow cases.
ReplyDeleteIt's not an apostrophe. It's a falling leaf. But it's falling the wrong way and is driving me CRAZY!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Yep, I would have pulled the threads out immediately.
