Post Walk Check-Up

"I was fully prepared to walk this off, Dr. H. but I'm here because my mom made me."

"Well let's take a look. So you didn't prepare for this 39 mile walk at all?"

"No."

"Not even five miles a day?"

"No."

"I'm not going to do anything with these blisters, none of them are infected. I'm going to do a CPK blood test."

"CPK? California Pizza Kitch--"

"Creatine phosphokinase, testing you for rhabdomyolysis. It's a breakdown of the muscle that can happen with extreme exercise. So, no training at all, huh?"

"No."

"I'm not going to test you for mental fitness... this time."

  6. Have you read The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye? If not, maybe you should. You're sorta Harold.

I hope your California Pizza Kitchen is OK.

  8. Apply two BBQ chicken pizzas to your feet and call Dr. H in the morning. (That's actually the mental fitness test he's talking about.)

  11. You are a rock star. Blisters are a small price to pay.

  12. It's nice to know he's willing to overlook your (possible) insanity this time. I picked up two feet worth of blisters once walking to end world hunger. I gave up my socks so an older friend of mine (in her 70s at the time)would have more cushioning since her socks weren't as thick as mine. We still talk about that every time we see each other. If I had it to do over again, I would, without hesitation. Good luck. Hope the feet heal soon and the knees don't hurt for long!

  13. Pshaw, who needs training? Next up, I suggest a marathon!

(of CPK's bread sticks, of course.)
