Souls

“Where is Meda, Mama?”

“Honey, Meda died. Remember?

“Why did her body stop working?”

“That’s what happens when people and animals get very, very, very old.”

“Like the bee in the backyard that we saw?”

“Yes.”

"And Miss Belva's dog that was very old?"

"Exactly."

“And Meda is not hurting?”

“No. She's not hurting. Not at all.”

“I wish I could see her.”

“Me too.”

“Daddy said that when you die, your soul leaves your body. He said that at the park.”

“Yes.”

“What’s a soul look like?”

“I don’t know if it looks like anything. What do you think?”

“I think it looks like pancakes. I like pancakes.”

“Me too.”

“Mama?”

“Yes, Pooch?”

“I want pancakes.”

  1. Proof that among breakfast foods, pancakes are more ethereal than cereal.

  2. Bob's explainantion of the soul sounds better than any I ever learned in a college Philosophy course. Perhaps all college professors should be 3 year olds.
I will honestly never look at pancakes the same way again.
