A What?

"Mom? What is this thing?"

"It's a thing people used to use to write letters and books and things before we had home computers.

"I don't get it. Why didn't anyone want to have a computer?"

"They weren't available. Computers haven't been around that long."

"Yeah, but you have, Mom."

"Thanks, Bob."

  1. And thank goodness you have. I love that you have this out for Bob. Get him used to that glorious sound of the letters thwacking against the paper.

  2. We worship the typewriter around here. I have them set around like altars. My son collects them.
Oh wait. You're probably the age of my son.
God. Tell Bob Rosenberg that you are not nearly as old as you will be one day.
    Kiss him for me.

  3. I'd love to find an old typewriter for my kids to play with. I spent hours with my dad's ancient adding machine - toting up the numbers and cranking the handle.

And I'm still amazed I made it through college and grad school without a computer.

  4. Hahahahaha!!! I found my grandma's sewing box the other day - she had a pair of electric scissors in there. My nephew said "Wow! I didn't know they had electricity back then!"
