Orienting Me

"Mom, which day is the first day of school?"

"It's on Thursday but the first day is an orientation so it's only an hour and a half and I'll be there with you the whole time."

"Why will you be there? I'm not scared, Mom."

"I am, a little."

  1. Of course Mom is more scared.
My mom tells of how my brother started kindergarten (at age 4, and no one went to pre-school in those days, so it truly was his 1st school) and he wouldn't let her even walk him up to the school door.
    She cried. He didn't.

  2. I dropped mine off today, Jack and my husband were fine, I was fighting back the tears and fears the whole time. I have been on the toilet alot the past couple of days, yep those nerves have gotten the best of me.

  3. And... Crying. Thanks for that. Usually I don't cry until after my second cup of coffee.

  5. Ugh! I know what this is like! George started full-day kindergarten last year and my blubbery sobbing tears took me by surprise. So speaking from experience - I can say for certain: 1) Just go ahead and cry it all out. You will feel so much better after. 2) You will get used to the (fabulous) school-day hours/time to yourself pretty fast! 3) He will always be your baby. Even when he's 30.

*It was great to see Jeff this weekend! Wish you had been there too!

    1. Thanks for the tips! Whether I cry or not, I have decided that the first day of school, I will spend some time getting a mani-pedi. (That could be number 1-1/2)

  6. It's a big rite of passage for the both of you for sure. I long for the day to be taking my little ones to their first day of school ever because that would mean I don't have a 12 and 9 year old. Waaaaaaah! They're getting too big!

  7. First day of preschool coming up soon for us. I haven't even allowed myself to think about the feelings I have inside. Im glad for you that he's not scared. That's reassuring to know.

  8. When I picked up my daughter after the first day of kindergarten she looked at me very seriously and said, "So tomorrow do I do first grade?" Which made me realize that she was ready for almost anything. Hope the first day goes really well. And a HUGE thank you for supporting my film. I am eternally grateful.

I am happy I was able to help in some small way - I would wish you luck, but you don't need it, the film looks fantastic. xo
