Smacksy Sunday Link: PS 22 Fiona's Song

You may already be familiar with the phenomenon of the P.S. 22 5th Grade Children's Chorus in Graniteville, Staten Island. Their covers of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" are only two of the many songs this fine chorus has making the rounds on the internet.

Yesterday, chorus teacher Gregg Breinberg, posted a new song written by one of the 10 year-old students in his class, Fiona. The song is called "Friendship." I love her/it/them.

Happy Sunday.

  1. Thanks for the link, Lisa! I hadn't heard of the PS22 Chorus. Fiona's voice and lyrics are very pure. I shared Fiona's song with Genevieve (in 5th grade)--she loved it! I'll share some of the other PS22 videos (amazing!) with both of our kids.

  2. Wow. I went from that one to watching them sing Landslide for Stevie Nicks at Madison Square Garden. That's life-changing stuff right there. You're doing me in this morning, Lisa.

  3. As you know, I like neither children nor music.

    But this is cool.

  4. I like kids AND I like music, unlike the divine miss L., but I don't like them combined. I have to say, the only thing that saves this vid for me are the exquisitely bored expressions on a few of the moppets' faces. Also, I appreciate the chance to be Anna Lefler's downstairs neighbor. Maybe I'll get a broomstick and "bang up", as we used to say in Queens.

  5. I love it!
I know this is wrong but all I kept thinking was Fiona, honey, get your hair out of your eyes.
