Sombrero Triste: A One Act

SOMBRERO TRISTE
BOB is watching the computer screen over my shoulder as I change my Twitter profile background photo.

BOB
Who is that crying hat boy?

ME
He’s you. Baby you.

BOB
Bob is crying?

ME
You were.

BOB
Why is that Bob crying?

ME
He didn’t like his hat.

BOB
Who put the hat on him?

ME
I did.

BOB
Why did you do that if Bob didn’t like it?

ME
Because it was pretty cute.

BOB
What part was cute?

MOM
The baby and the hat and the crying.

BOB
That is mean.

ME
But you were adorable.

BOB
Mean Mama.

  1. Sciuz me, why is Bob a preschooler? Seems to me he's intelligent enough to skip all the way up to 9th grade. He already got the "mean mama" thing working.

    Love your blog!

  2. He asks such great questions. It's like he inherently knows that photo will resurface periodically for the rest of his life, culminating with the big reveal to his prom date. It's not mean, it's our job.

  3. That is too funny.
    And that photo is adorable.

  4. The funny thing is, why does Bob refer to himself in the third person like Jeff Bridges from Starman?

  5. Bob forgets we are little girls just playing dolly's.

.... who didn't dressed up their cat?

    {hoping there are a lot of nodding heads out there or that could sound real bizarre}

  6. I side with Mean Mama. That is one mucho cute bebe.

Some of my favorite pictures of my kids show them in one state of distress or another. They just seem more "real."
